Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) resumed serving meals on all trains from Monday, February 14. The move comes over a year after the corporation stopped the service owing to the spread of COVID-19.
The railways resumed cooked meal service in most of its services last month. IRCTC's ready-to-eat meal service will continue, too.
"Cooked food has already been restored in 428 trains. Of the total number of trains, cooked food had already been restored in 30 percent by December 2021, 80 percent by January 2022, and the remaining 20 percent shall be restored by February 14, 2022," the railways said.

Daily COVID-19 cases have remained below 1 lakh for eight consecutive days now. The number of people who have recuperated from the viral disease has surged to 4,16,77,641 and the case fatality rate was recorded at 1.19 percent.
The national COVID-19 recovery rate has further improved to 97.68 percent and a reduction of 58,163 cases has been recorded in the active COVID-19 caseload in a span of 24 hours, the ministry said.
Started in 2014, IRCTC's e-catering service enables passengers to order online an array of food from reputed brands and regional operators, and the food is provided at the seat. The program was successful, with IRCTC getting up to 20,000 daily orders before the pandemic.
