India Smart Cities Conclave 2023: Indore wins ‘Best Smart City’ award

India Smart Cities Conclave 2023: Indore wins ‘Best Smart City’ award
Indore bagged the prestigious honour of ‘Best Smart City’ in India on Wednesday at the India Smart Cities Conclave 2023. This coveted recognition for Indore comes after it was ranked as the country’s cleanest city five times.

India Smart Cities Conclave 2023, organised in Indore on September 26 and 27, was graded by President Droupadi Murmu. The two-day event was also attended by Madhya Pradesh Governor Mangubhai Patel, Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri and Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
According to the news agency ANI, Gujarat’s Surat came second while Agra in Uttar Pradesh secured the third position among the smart cities of India.
Madhya Pradesh was also adjudged Best State in the country while Tamil Nadu came second. Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh together bagged the third position.
“India Smart Cities Conclave 2023: Indore wins the Best Smart City award in the country. Surat, Gujarat was awarded second place and Agra secured the third spot in the country. Madhya Pradesh was also awarded as the number one state in the country,” ANI tweeted.
Indore bagged the first position for having the best sanitation, urban environment and water in the city. CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan praised the contribution of the public in making and maintaining the city.
The Central government launched the Smart Cities Mission (SCM) on June 25, 2015. The mission aims to promote cities that can provide core infrastructure, a clean and sustainable environment, and offer a decent quality of life to the citizens. The focus of Smart Cities Mission is on sustainable development by creating replicable models which can act as lighthouses to other aspiring cities. A total of 100 cities were selected to be developed as Smart Cities at first.
The India Smart Cities Conclave was organised to showcase the country’s emerging infrastructure and development in the urban landscape. This conclave witnessed the participation of all 100 smart cities that are leading a significant shift in the practice of developing modern cities. The event also provided a platform for the cities to showcase their work done under the Smart City Mission.
