The Supreme Court on March 6, Wednesday, permitted the establishment of tiger safari in the peripheral and buffer zones of the reserved forest Jim Corbett subject to the conditions.
The court pulled up former Uttarakhand Forest Minister Harak Singh Rawat and then forest officials for allowing illegal construction and felling of trees in the Corbett tiger reserve.
The top court said it was amazed at the audacity of the former minister, and forest officer in giving a total go-by to statutory provisions. "Bureaucrats and politicians have thrown public trust doctrine in a waste bin," the court said.
The court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation to submit its status report within three months.
The Enforcement Directorate had earlier raided the residences of Rawat and Chand in connection with illegal construction in the tiger reserve.
