9 dead as speeding car ploughs into crowd in Gujarat, driver 'thrashed by angry bystanders' | VIDEO

Gujarat: The accident took place at ISKCON bridge on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway in Ahmedabad late Wednesday.

Nine persons were killed and 13 injured after a speeding luxury car ploughed into a crowd on a flyover in Ahmedabad late Wednesday, police said. Twelve people were brought to the hospital, out of which nine were dead. Youth from Botad and Surendranagar were among the dead, local media reported.

"Twelve victims were shifted to our hospital from the ISKCON bridge accident, of which eight were brought dead while one patient succumbed while undergoing treatment. The three other victims are being transferred to the Civil Hospital in Asarwa,” Dipika Singhal, Medical Superintendent, Sola Civil Hospital, said on Thursday.
Meanwhile, DCP Traffic West Nita Desai said the driver is undergoing treatment and will be arrested after a discussion with the doctor. According to a report, Tathya Patel, who allegedly ploughed his speeding car into a crowd on ISKCON Bridge, was thrashed by the angry bystanders. A purported video of the same was shared by PTI.
The accident took place at ISKCON bridge on the Sarkhej-Gandhinagar highway late Wednesday. The car, reported to be running at over 100 kmph, ploughed into a crowd gathered there after an accident between two vehicles, a police official said.
Informing about the accident, DCP Traffic West Nita Desai said, "Last night a Jaguar car killed 9 people and injured 10-11 people. The driver has been admitted to hospital and as per doctor's advice, we will arrest him."
Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said the state government has given Rs 4 lakh each to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured. "The accident that happened last night at ISKCON Bridge in Ahmedabad is very sad. I express my heartfelt condolences," he tweeted.
