Dense fog disrupts flight operations for 5th consecutive day in Delhi
The northern regions of India are currently experiencing harsh weather conditions with cold waves and dense fog, significantly reducing visibility. Flight and rail operations have been affected, leading to delays.

Minimum temperatures in states like Punjab and Haryana are ranging from 3 to 6 degrees Celsius. Similarly, most parts of Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, North Madhya Pradesh, and Bihar are witnessing minimum temperatures in the range of 7 to 10 degrees Celsius.
The severe cold wave is expected to persist in parts of Haryana and Punjab until Friday, January 19, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). However, there is some relief on the horizon, as the IMD predicts an improvement in temperatures starting January 25. Additionally, northwest India can anticipate rainfall activity in the coming days, as per the IMD's information.
Flights delayed
The low visibility at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi has led to delays and cancellation of several flights, news agency ANI reported. It was the fifth consecutive day of flight disruptions this week.
Hundreds of passengers were spotted waiting for their scheduled flights.
Meanwhile, several trains have also been delayed. According to the Northern Railway, as many as five major trains -- Khajuraho-Kurukshetra Express, Puri-New Delhi Purushottam Express, Hyderabad-New Delhi Express, Rani Kamlapati-New Delhi Bhopal Express and Kamakhya-Delhi Junction -- were delayed by over six hours of their scheduled time.
Around seven Delhi-bound trains are also running late by 2-3 hours. As per the authorities, many other trains were also running 1-2 hours late due to weather conditions.
As per IMD, Delhi has been experiencing low visibility of around 50 metres while zero visibility has been recorded in isolated pockets in the region.
