Delhi pollution: Schools asked to suspend physical classes until November 10

In response to the deteriorating air quality in the national capital, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said all schools in the city have been directed to suspend physical classes till November 10. This directive excludes classes 10 and 12.

Rai mentioned in a press conference on Monday, that a decision regarding work-from-home for 50% of the staff in both government and private offices within Delhi is under consideration. This measure aims to reduce the number of commuters on the roads and alleviate the pollution burden.
The overall air quality in Delhi continues to remain in the ‘severe’ category, as per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), with the national capital witnessing a thick layer of toxic haze on Monday morning.
As per the latest data, the overall Air Quality Index (AQI) in Delhi stood at 440 on Monday morning.
“A meeting has been called tomorrow to have further discussions on how to implement the Odd-Even scheme in Delhi. There are over 7,000 buses running in Delhi, out of which 1,000 are electric. The frequency of buses and metros has also increased. To reduce vehicular pollution, an odd-even scheme has been started,” Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said to ANI.
Additionally the ban  imposed on BS-III petrol vehicles and BS-IV diesel vehicles will be continued, said Rai.
“The ban that was imposed on BS-III petrol vehicles and BS-IV diesel vehicles will be continued in GRAP-4, except for LNG, CNG and electric trucks of the essential commodities and essential service vehicles, other trucks are banned entry into Delhi. In GRAP-3, demolition work at Flyovers, overbridges and power transmission pipelines was given an exemption. Now they are also banned,” he added.
