Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur, on Wednesday, announced the approval of two new corridors for the Delhi Metro’s Phase-IV project. The corridors, namely Lajpat Nagar to Saket G-Block and Inderlok to Indraprastha, are set to cost ₹8400 crore and will extend the metro line by 20.7 km.
According to Thakur, the project is expected to be completed by March 2029 and will allow an average of 2.5 lakh people to travel every day. Post today’s approval, the total Delhi metro line will cover 450 kms, as against current network of 392.44 kilometres spanning over 12 corridors in NCR.
The two corridors which have been approved are Lajpat Nagar – Saket-G Block and Inderlok – Indraprastha. The Lajpat Nagar to Saket G- Block corridor will be 8.385 km long, entirely elevated, and will have 8 stations. The Inderlok to Indraprastha corridor will be 12.377 km long, with 11.349 km underground and 1.028 km elevated, and will have 10 stations.
The Lajpat Nagar – Saket G Block corridor will improve connectivity in south Delhi, connecting areas such as Andrews Ganj, Greater Kailash and many areas in Saket by the Metro. The Inderlok – Indraprastha corridor will be an extension of the Green Line and will take the Metro to many new areas in central Delhi.
In 2019, three corridors namely Aerocity – Tughlakabad, R.K. Ashram Marg – Janak Puri West and Majlis Park – Maujpur were sanctioned at the cost of about ₹24,950 crore with a route length of about 65 km. The construction work on these stretches is underway and these will be operationalised by the year 2026.
