The Indian Medical Association (IMA) says it is pained by the statement of Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan, who in reply to a question in Parliament, said the government did not have the data on how many healthcare workers have died from COVID-19.

Stating that it has published a list of 382 doctors who died due to the disease, and demanding that they be treated as "martyrs", the IMA criticised the government's response, terming it "an abdication of duty and abandonment of the national heroes who have stood up for our people".
In an interview with CNBC-TV18, Dr Rajan Sharma of IMA, Viren Shetty of Naryana Health, Dr Mohan Joshi, Dean, Sion Hospital and Dr Sunil Karanth of Manipal Hospitals decode the impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on the state of hospitals.
