After Sidhu Moosewala's parents were blessed with their second son, the central government sought a detailed report from the Punjab government on the IVF treatment of the late Punjabi singer's mother Charan Kaur. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has asked the state government to submit a report to the department.
The letter was written by SK Ranjan, Director, Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on March 14 and is addressed to the Principal Secretary, Health, Government of Punjab. It has asked the state to look into the matter and submit a report to the department on action taken based on the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021.
In the letter, Ranjan said that the department came across a news report stating that Charan Kaur went for IVF treatment to conceive a baby at the age of 58.
“Under Section 21(g)(i) of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021, the age limit prescribed for a woman going under ART Services is between 21-50 years,” the official wrote.

IVF treatment: What's the age limit?
For married couples seeking IVF treatment, the age limit is:
This is based on the Section 21(g) of the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021.
Moosewala's father Balkaur Singh is 60 years old, while his mother, Charan Kaur, is 58.
The family alleges 'harassment'
This comes after Balkaur Singh accused the AAP government in Punjab of harassing him over the birth of his second son. The couple welcomed a baby boy on March 17, nearly two years after Sidhu Moosewala was shot dead in Punjab's Mansa district. According to reports, they opted for the In-Vitro Fertilization (IVF) technique.
"Two days ago, by the blessings of 'Waheguru' and your prayers, we got our Shubhdeep (Sidhu Moosewala) back," Balkaur Singh said in a video clip on Instagram on Tuesday.
“However, the administration has been harassing me since morning, asking me to furnish documents of the baby. They are posing me several questions, asking me to prove that this child is legal,” he added.
