The Central Railway collected over ₹26 crore, in October, from more than 4 lakh passengers travelling without tickets in trains across all its divisions in Mumbai.

In an official release, Central Railway said that 4.16 lakhs of passengers were caught without tickets during the checking in October and the total penalty imposed on the defaulters amounted to ₹26.69 crore.
The Central Railway conducted the checking for Suburban, Mail Express, Passenger services, and special trains across all the divisions to curb ticketless and irregular travel. The checks were conducted with the aim of providing comfortable and better services to all rail users.
According to the release, the senior officers are also closely keeping an eye to monitor the revenue loss due to ticketless travelling and other such irregularities.
“In October month- 4.16 lakh ticketless passengers were caught. 26.69 crores penalty imposed. Passengers are requested to travel with valid tickets & travel with dignity. Download "UTS MOBILE APP" on your mobile for an unreserved ticket. Avoid standing in the ticket line and save time,” Central Railway tweeted on Monday.
According to the press release, during the current financial year (FY 2023-24) for the April-October 2023 period, a total of 27.32 cases of irregular or ticketless travel and unbooked luggage were reported and the total penalty imposed amounted to ₹176.17 crore.
Earlier, in October, the Central Railway auctioned different types of scrap, including overaged locos, diesel surplus locos, un-operational rail lines and overaged or accidental coaches to generate revenue. The Central Railway generated ₹223. 85 crore revenue from scrap sales, as of October 31.
This was done as a part of its ‘Zero Scrap’ mission, which aims to ensure that every division, workshop, and shed is entirely free from scrap materials within a given period of time.
