Ashneer Grover, co-founder and former managing director of BharatPe, and his wife Madhuri Jain were prevented from boarding their flight to New York at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi on Thursday evening. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Delhi police had issued a lookout circular earlier in the week as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged fraud at BharatPe.
Sources revealed that the couple, who were on their way to a vacation in New York, was detained by the EOW. Sindhu Pillai, the Joint Commissioner of Police (EOW), stated that they were stopped before the security check and instructed to return to their Delhi residence. The couple has been asked to join the probe at the EOW office on Mandir Marg next week. Pillai clarified that the lookout circular was issued to prevent their international travel, and as of now, they have not been formally arrested.
Grover, in a post on X (formerly Twitter), confirmed the development but denied receiving any notice from EOW. In the same post, he said he received a notice in this regard from the EOW on Friday (November 17) morning, seven hours after they were stopped from boarding their flight.

Earlier in the week, Moneycontrol reported that recruitment firms associated with Ashneer Grover and his family members, co-founders of BharatPe, allegedly used backdated invoices to misappropriate funds for services not rendered to the fintech unicorn. The EOW investigation also encountered difficulty tracing several firms that received vendor payments from BharatPe.
In December 2022, BharatPe filed a criminal complaint against Ashneer Grover, his wife, and her family members, accusing them of orchestrating a ₹81.28 crore fraud. One specific allegation involves ₹7.6 crore purportedly paid by BharatPe to eight HR consultants connected to the accused individuals between 2018 and 2021.
