Mumbai's Bademiya restaurant closed down after FDA finds rats, cockroaches in kitchen
Popular Mumbai eatery Bademiya, known for its kebabs, was closed down on Wednesday, September 13, after Food and Drug Administration (FDA) officials found cockroaches and rats in their kitchen during a raid, as per media reports. The raid was conducted at their South Bombay branch following multiple hygiene-related complaints.

According to an India Today report, the FDA also uncovered that the restaurant had been running its two branches (Bandra and South Bombay) without proper licensing. They were lacking a license from the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) despite 76 years of operation.
On both Swiggy and Zomato, Bademiya appears closed on Thursday, September 14, and isn't accepting any orders. Calls made by CNBC-TV18 as of noon on Thursday, September 14, to the Colaba and other branches of Bademiya were not answered.
An FDA official was quoted by India Today, stating, “There is an ongoing raid and inspection (of FDA) across restaurants in Mumbai. Bademiya is one of the hotels that have been raided. This afternoon, the vigilance team and our local officer arrived here (Bademiya) and found that a cloud kitchen served meals for two of its adjoining branches. There was no license granted to the eatery and hygiene issues have also surfaced."
In response, the restaurant's owner claimed to possess all necessary licenses except for one from the FSSAI, which is currently in progress. The owner also expressed willingness to fully cooperate with the authorities. They also said they would be more careful in serving hygienic food to customers.
This news comes just weeks after a dead rat was found in a customer's food at Mumbai's Papa Pancho da Dhaba restaurant. Per an Indian Express report, the manager and cook were arrested by police and the restaurant, like Bademiya, was temporarily closed by the FDA.
