In Deepotsav 2022, Ayodhya made a Guinness World Record by lighting up 15.76 lakh diyas at 37 ghats of Saryu River.

Ahead of the Diwali celebrations, the administration of Dr Ram Manohar Lohia Avadh University has begun the preparations for the Ayodhya Deepotsav.

Like the previous year, the organisers of Ayodhya Deepotsav aim to create a new world record by lighting 24 lakh diyas (lamps) on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, this year as well. According to the news agency ANI, volunteers will be deployed at the 51 ghats of Sarayu river, including Ram ki Pauri and Chaudhary Charan Singh Ghat, to decorate the river bank with a record number of earthen lamps.
As per the official release by the university, the target of lighting 24 lakh diyas has been set by the Uttar Pradesh government to create a world record. The event will be conducted under the supervision of University Vice-Chancellor, Pratibha Goyal.
The press release also mentioned that 60 to 70% of the diyas have already been placed at the ghats with the help of the deployed volunteers under the supervision of the ghat in-charge and coordinators.
On the day of ‘Deepotsav’, only the officials, volunteers and visitors with identity cards will be allowed to the site. The identity cards have already been issued by the university and the district administration. In addition to the identity cards, the individuals entering the site will also need to carry their Aadhar card, the press release added.
The earthen lamps will be placed in different blocks with each block carrying 256 lamps, arranged into 16 rows and 16 columns. Each block will be of 4.5 by 4.5 square feet while there will be a gap of 2.5 feet between two blocks each for movement of volunteers. A total of 25,000 volunteers will be engaged to light the lamps, according to ANI.
The ‘Ayodhya Deepotsav’ will be starting at 3 PM on Saturday, November 11. However, following the event, the ghats will be cleaned and the diyas will be counted by the Guinness World Records team.
Previously, Ayodhya Deepotsav 2022 also secured a place on Guinness World Records for lighting of 15.76 lakh diyas. A total of 19,000 volunteers were deployed across the 37 ghats of Sarayu river.
