Telangana's Drug Control Administration (DCA) on Tuesday (November 5) announced the seizure of counterfeit anti-cancer drugs worth ₹4.35 crore from an unlicensed warehouse. The warehouse is run by a firm named Astrica Healthcare, local media reported citing police.
The reports suggested that labels on the seized drugs bear details of Astra Generics Pvt. Ltd - a company whose licences had already been cancelled in July, 2022. However, the drugs seized bore the manufacturing date as March, 2023.
The Director General of the agency, V B Kamalasan Reddy, termed the seizures as a major breakthrough. As of now, Director of Astrica Healthcare K. Sateesh Reddy is said to be absconding.
Earlier, on receiving credible information about the illegal production, a special team led by Assistant Director, P. Ramu, had conducted raids at various locations on December 2.
In today's raid, DCA officials took assistance from the postal authorities to trace the location mentioned on the invoices it had gathered.
