Coronavirus India News Live Updates: The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has gone past 18.57 crore, the Union Health Ministry said on Tuesday. It said 5,14,408 beneficiaries in the age group of 18-44 years received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine on Tuesday and cumulatively 64,60,624 across 36 states and union territories since the start of the third phase of the vaccination drive. The total of 18,57,66,518 includes 96,73,302 healthcare workers (HCWs) who have taken the first dose, 66,58,820 HCWs who have taken the second dose, 1,45,65,255 frontline workers (FLWs) who have received the first dose, 82,29,693 FLWs who have taken the second dose and 64,60,624 individuals in the 18-44 years of age group who have received the first dose.

Jamia professor dies of COVID
 
Days after she put out an SOS message on Twitter asking for an ICU bed for herself, Jamia Millia Islamia professor Nabila Sadiq lost her battle to coronavirus at the age of 38.  She is the fifth serving professor from the varsity to have succumbed to the virus in the last one month.  Sadiq had lost her mother Nuzhat to the virus on May 7 and is survived by her 85yearold father Sadique, who is 80.

Nagaland extends lockdown till May 31 as COVID cases continue to rise
Considering the consistent rise   in COVID19 cases in the state, the Nagaland government on Wednesday decided to extend the ongoing total lockdown till May 31, officials said.  At a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, the state's High Powered Committee (HPC) on COVID19 made the decision two days before the current weeklong lockdown comes to an end.

COVID-19: Recoveries continue to outnumber fresh infections in Karnataka
The number of recoveries   continued to outnumber fresh COVID19 cases in Karnataka, as the state on Wednesday reported 49,953 discharges, 34,281 new cases and 468 fatalities, the Health Department said.   While the total number of infections stood at 23,06,655, the toll was 23,306.

West Bengal reports 19,006 new COVID-19 cases, 157 deaths 
 
West Bengal's COVID19 death   toll rose to 13,733 after 157 more people succumbed to the disease on Wednesday, the state health department said in a bulletin.      Altogether 19,006 fresh cases of infection also took the tally 11,90,867.

Maharashtra has received 1 lakh doses of Covaxin, 2 lakh doses of Covishield: Tope 

Rajesh Tope, Maharashtra health minister, today said the state received 1 lakh doses of Covaxin and 2 lakh doses of Covishield yesterday. "Have a stock of 5 lakh doses in the state."  He said restriction in Maharashtra will stay till June 1. Lockdown is needed when a state falls short of medical infrastructure.  No place in Maharashtra is facing shortage of beds, vaccines, and medicines. Oxygen train reaches Agra with 64 metric tonnes of liquid oxygen

The first Oxygen Express train for Agra, Mathura and Aligarh, carrying 64 metric tonnes of the life saving gas, arrived here from Jharkhand's Tata Nagar on Wednesday. "Earlier, we used to airlift oxygen or transport it by land," Additional District Magistrate Prabhakant Awasthi said. Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF) and local police were deployed for the protection of the train at Yamuna Bridge station, Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammad Mustaque said. "We will also ensure the quick and safe decanting of the containers," he said.

COVID testing rate in Uttarakhand double the national average: State govt
 
The COVID19 positivity rate has come down from 23 per cent to 18 per cent in Uttarakhand and the testing rate at present is double the national average, the state government said on Wednesday. In the last 24 hours, more than 7,000 people have recovered from COVID19, while 4,800 new cases have been detected, state Health Secretary Amit Negi said at a joint press conference with police and SDRF officials. "COVID positivity rate has come down from 23 per cent to 18 per cent. Sampling is also being consistently increased. A total of 35,000 samples were tested on Tuesday. The COVID testing rate of Uttarakhand at present is double the national average," he said.
