Black fungus: Centre gives license to five more companies to make Liposomal Amphotericin B drug

Indian missions across the world have been involved in securing supplies of this drug after PM Modi had instructed officials to get the drug from anywhere it is available in the world, the sources said.

The government on Thursday gave licenses to five more companies to make Liposomal Amphotericin B drug in order to increase the availability of injections to deal with Mucormycosis or black fungus infection, sources in the government said.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had instructed officials to get the drug from anywhere it is available in the world. Indian missions across the world have been involved in securing supplies of this drug, the sources told ANI.
Gilead Sciences in the USA has extended help in securing the supplies. It is working on expediting the supply of AmBisome to India through Mylan. More than 121,000 vials have so far reached India. Another 85,000 vials are on the way. The company will supply 1 million doses of AmBisome to India through Mylan, the sources added.
India has recorded 11,717 cases of Mucormycosis so far, with Gujarat, Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh registering the highest number of cases.
