Finance ministry says over 30 lakh audit reports filed on Income Tax department portal
The union finance ministry on Monday (October 2) said more than 30.75 lakh audit reports, including approximately 29.5 lakh tax audit reports (TARs), were successfully filed for the assessment year (AY) 2023-24.

To ensure a smooth filing process, extensive outreach programs were executed, with around 55.4 lakh outreach interactions through emails, SMSs, and social media channels, along with informative messages on the Income Tax portal.
These efforts aimed to create awareness among taxpayers about the importance of filing Tax Audit Reports and other audit forms within the stipulated timeframe.
Furthermore, the Income Tax portal featured user awareness videos to provide guidance and support to taxpayers and tax professionals throughout the filing process. These collective endeavors played a pivotal role in enabling taxpayers to meet the deadline for filing audit reports.
The e-filing portal demonstrated its robustness by effectively handling the surge in traffic, ensuring a seamless experience for taxpayers and tax professionals. This efficiency has received praise from professionals across various platforms, including social media.
The e-filing Helpdesk played a crucial role in assisting taxpayers, having addressed approximately 2.36 lakh queries in the month of September 2023. The support was provided through multiple channels, including inbound calls, outbound calls, live chats, Webex sessions, and co-browsing sessions.
The Helpdesk team also proactively resolved queries received on the Department's Twitter handle through Online Response Management (ORM), offering real-time assistance to taxpayers and stakeholders.
Moreover, several webinars focused on filing audit forms were organised to provide guidance to tax professionals, further enhancing the overall tax compliance ecosystem.
The concerted efforts of taxpayers, tax professionals, and the Income Tax Department have collectively contributed to a successful filing season, ensuring compliance with tax regulations.
