In a clear reflection of healthy economic growth, India's direct tax collections as of October 9, 2023, stand at ₹11.07 lakh crore.
Talking to CNBC-TV18, Chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes Nitin Gupta shared that direct tax collection has been robust and the government is "confident of achieving the targets set in the Budget for the current fiscal."
"Growth in direct tax collections has been robust. As of date, up to October 9, collections are at ₹11.07 lakh crore as against the target of ₹18.23 lakh crore. Which is growing at the rate of 21.8%," Gupta said.
The income tax department had earlier shared that the net direct tax collection had already touched ₹8.65 lakh crore, till mid-September, showing a growth of over 20% on an annual basis.
Collections from securities transaction tax have also touched ₹16,300 crore as against ₹14,250 crore till October 9, 2023, Gupta added.
