Bank of Baroda’s digital lending head Akhil Handa exits, Kadgatoor Sheetal Venkatesmurt steps in
Bank of Baroda’s digital lending head Akhil Handa has left the bank after serving almost eight years there. The bank informed exchanges late on Tuesday, October 31, that Kadgatoor Sheetal Venkatesmurt had been named the bank’s new digital lending and digital operations head with effect from October 31, 2023.

It termed the reason for Akhil Handa’s exit as “cessation to employment,” without elaborating on any specifics in the notification.
On November 4, after announcing the bank's second quarter results, the bank's managing director and chief executive officer Debadatta Chand said the bank had taken action on a large set of people on the field after the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) found deficiencies in the bank's mobile app.
The RBI last month said Bank of Baroda would need to correct certain deficiencies before it can be allowed to onboard new customers to its 'bob World' mobile app. The RBI did not say what those issues were.
“As far as the (former) CDO (Chief Digital Officer, Akhil Handa) is concerned, it is a cessation of service induced by the bank and that is a termination,” Chand said as per a Reuters report.
In a post on social networking site LinkedIn on October 31, Akhil Handa had said his decision to move on from Bank of Baroda was made a “long time ago,” but the announcement was made later to facilitate the transition period.
He said, “As I embark on a new journey, today 31.10.23 marks the end of my journey at Bank of Baroda, and I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to my incredible colleagues for the incredible support and camaraderie during my time here. I'm especially grateful to our previous MD&CEO's, Sanjiv Chadha and P S Jayakumar, and all the Executive Directors who have mentored me and for the opportunities they provided me during my tenure. Their leadership and vision have been inspiring. While the decision to move on was made long time ago, I had to wait until my transition period completion to make this announcement. Your support, encouragement, and collaboration have been invaluable throughout this period. I have worked for some great leaders on this journey, each teaching me something and showing patience, as I learned along the way. Thank you to all colleagues, past and present for your support and help in my journey so far. Onwards to new adventures!“
