Yellow alert for Mumbai, adjoining areas ahead of predicted unseasonal rainfall on November 25, 26
Mumbai and its adjoining areas are expected to witness rains and thunderstorms over the weekend, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted. The IMD has issued a yellow alert for the extensive coastal areas of Mumbai, predicting heavy rainfall from November 25 to November 27. In addition to these areas, other parts of Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and south Rajasthan are also expected to see thunderstorms in the coming week.

In its latest bulletin, the Met department said that a fresh Western Disturbance will approach northwest India as an upper-level trough extending up to the east-central Arabian Sea off the Gujarat-Maharashtra-Goa coasts on November 25 and 26. “As a result, the above trough in mid-latitude westerlies in middle and upper tropospheric levels will interact with a lower level trough in easterlies,” it added.
The rain is also expected to reduce air pollution in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region, which has seen its AQI in the 'moderate' category over the past few days.
Meanwhile, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) in Mumbai recently shared a comprehensive five-day forecast, alerting people about unseasonal rainfall and thunderstorms. These predictions indicate that some areas in Palghar, Thane, and Mumbai could experience thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and strong winds of 30 kmph to 40 kmph.
Therefore, all three districts have been placed under a yellow alert for November 25 and 26. Palghar is expected to be on alert for November 27 as well. According to the RMC report, Mumbai and Thane districts will also experience light to moderate rain or thundershowers throughout the day on Monday.
The update on Mumbai weather comes even as many districts in Tamil Nadu and Kerala witnessed massive rainfall, uprooting trees in areas along the Coonoor-Mettupalayam and Kotagiri-Mettupalayam roads, disrupting the traffic.
