Himachal Pradesh received 249.6 mm average rainfall from July 1 to July 11 against a normal rainfall of 76.6 mm, an excess of 226 percent. Kinnaur district received 500 per cent excess rains, followed by Solan 426 percent, Sirmaur 367 percent, Shimla 360 percent, Bilaspur 325 percent, and Kullu 283 percent. Lahaul and Spiti received 233 percent, Chamba 220 percent, Una 218 percent, Hamirpur 171 percent, Mandi 130 percent, and Kangra 75 per cent, said the weather office.

Incessant rain nearly crippled the state infrastructure with several routes, including national highways, closed due to frequent landslides, affecting the 'Char Dham yatra' currently underway.

Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly V D Satheesan on Tuesday sought the intervention of Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu to ensure the safety of 47 students from Kerala who are stranded in Manali district due to the flash floods and torrential rains.In a letter to the Chief Minister, Satheesan said the Keralite students, including 45 medical students from Government Medical Colleges in Ernakulam and Thrissur districts, have been stranded in the north Indian state since the rains wreaked havoc there.

Among the 47 stranded students, 45 are medicos, of whom 27 are from Kochi and 18 from Thrissur. He said the remaining two students are said to be stranded in Tosh village in the remote Parvati valley, and more information about them is still awaited. According to available information, the students from Ernakulam are staying at the Nasogi Woods hotel, which is located near the Hidimba temple and the HPWD guest house, Satheesan said.

Weather update LIVE | Thousands moved safer places in Delhi as Yamuna water level rises

The Delhi government on Tuesday said thousands of people living in the floodplain of the swollen Yamuna river in the city have been shifted to makeshift accommodations in safer places and provided with food and water. Saurabh Bharadwaj, the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government's water minister, said the evacuation process was underway. The affected people are being shifted to places in the East, North, Northeast, Southeast, Central and Shahdara districts of Delhi where more than 2,700 tents have been arranged for them.

Bharadwaj said most of the tents to shelter the evacuated people have been pitched in the East district (1,700), besides 280 in North East Delhi district, 170 in Shahdara, 150 in Central and 384 in South East district among others. Shelters have also been readied in the North district where food water and other facilities were made available, he said. (PTI)
