Weather Update LIVE: NDRF resuces over 960 people in Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab

According to NDRF, more than 960 people have been rescued while over 10,000 have been shifted to safer places in regions of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Punjab, as reported by PTI.

IMD has forecasted squally wind speed of 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph likely over West central and adjoining Southwest and Northwest Arabian Sea, Comorin area.

IMD has also predicted squally weather wind speed of 40-45 kmph gusting to 55 kmph likely over southeast Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea.

Himachal Pradesh Rains: Schools shut across the state today

The Education department had ordered closure of all schools and colleges in the state on Wednesday and the Himachal Pradesh University has suspended teaching activities till August 19, news agency PTI reported. About 800 roads are blocked in the state and the losses suffered by the state since the onset of monsoon since June 24 has crosses Rs 7,200 crore, officials said.

Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said, "I am on the way to Kangra. We have evacuated over 650 people there. Around 100 people are still trapped in Kangra, rescue operation is underway. Another body has been recovered in Shimla. The state has suffered a loss of around Rs 10,000 crores. It will take around 1 years for us to redevelop the infrastructure of the state."
