As the cold wave continues to envelop the northern parts of India, the temperature dropped below zero degrees Celsius in Jammu and Kashmir's Srinagar, news agency ANI reported. Due to the extreme cold conditions in the city, a thin sheet of ice formed over the Dal Lake. In visuals from the lake, boats were seen rowing through the ice sheets.

According to the India Meteorological Department’s local weather report and forecast, areas near Dal Lake recorded a minimum temperature of minus 5 degrees Celsius on Thursday morning. As per the data, the maximum temperature on January 11 is likely to hover around 13 degrees Celsius.
The minimum temperature in and around Dal Lake is likely to persist below zero degrees Celsius until January 17.
Meanwhile, Srinagar recorded its lowest temperature on Saturday, January 6. According to ANI, the city experienced a minimum of minus 5.6 degrees Celsius, leading to the formation of an ice sheet on January 7 as well.
Due to the extremely cold conditions in the region, a senior official at Jammu Airport on Wednesday said that around nine flights were delayed and rescheduled for the departure time. Despite the foggy weather, 11 other flights operated with no disruption, reported a Jammu-based newspaper Daily Excelsior.
Apart from that, a Northern Railway spokesperson mentioned to Daily Excelsior that 10 trains were delayed at the Jammu station due to dense fog and low visibility today.
Meanwhile, the weather department issued cold day alerts for several northern states, including Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Rajasthan Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 5.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday. As per IMD’s prediction, the maximum temperature is likely to hover around 15 degrees Celsius.
The dense fog in Delhi decreased the level of visibility to 500 metres, as per the 8:30 am data recorded at Safdarjung reading station.
