The air quality in Mumbai continues to remain in the ‘moderate’ category though many parts of the city witnessed a layer of haze on Tuesday morning. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting And Research (SAFAR) data, Mumbai’s air quality remained in the ‘moderate category’ with an overall quality index (AQI) of 123 on Tuesday morning.

Additionally, most of the areas across the city recorded air quality within the ‘moderate category’. As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, AQI in Colaba stood at 108, Andheri at 113, Malad at 137, Bandra Kurla Complex at 173, Borivali at 155, Mazagaon at 133, Worli at 91, and Navy Mumbai at 169.
Amid the air pollution control measures taken by the authorities, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde undertook an inspection of the steps taken by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). CM Shinde went for the inspection in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Following the review of the pollution control measures, CM Shinde mentioned that, in view of the rising air quality concern in the city, he has held a special meeting with the commissioner, MMRDA and others. He added, “They were given instructions that the pollution level in Mumbai has to be brought down - so, outsource manpower, deploy more teams, clean roads with water, remove debris from roads. So, I told the commissioner to hire 1000 tankers, roads to be cleaned on alternate days, and dust to be removed.”
The Maharashtra CM further mentioned that the authorities have also been using anti-smog guns, and jet machines to curb air pollution. While adding details regarding artificial rain in the city, CM Shinde said, “If needed, we will also go for cloud seeding, and an MoU will be signed with a Dubai-based company. The Government and the Corporation will do everything that is needed to bring down the pollution in Mumbai.”
Currently, the BMC is undertaking to wash off the roads as a measure of controlling air pollution. The authorities have been planning to wash 1,000 km of roads by December 1.
The BMC has also been taking strict actions against individuals who are not following the pollution control guidelines.
