Passengers planning to travel via flights and trains in Northern India over the next few days should prepare for potential delays, as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts the persistence of dense to very dense fog in north-western and parts of adjoining central India for the next 3 to 4 days.
While visibility at Delhi airport was noted at 50 metres till as late as 10 am on Tuesday, most of the airport's RVR (runway visual range) was between 125 to 275 metres at CAT-III dense fog.
Cities like Amritsar, Patiala, Ambala, Prayagraj, Guna and Paradeep had woken up to zero visibility due to fog at 5:30 am today. While very dense fog was observed in isolated pockets of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, East Uttar Pradesh, West Madhya Pradesh and Odisha; moderate fog was noted in isolated pockets of western Uttar Pradesh and shallow fog was observed in isolated pockets of Bihar, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Tripura.
Other cities with low visibility, registering less than 500 meters until 8:30 am today, included Ludhiana, Hisar, Karnal, Jhansi, Varanasi, and Satna at 25 meters each.
Additionally, Bhiwani, Meerut, Lucknow, Khajuraho, and Rourkela reported 50 meters each, while Rohtak, Bareilly, Damoh, and Agartala recorded 200 meters each.
Travelers are advised to stay informed about weather conditions, anticipate delays, and make necessary adjustments to their plans during this period of challenging visibility.
