Delhiites wake up to foggy morning; air quality remains ‘very poor’

Delhiites wake up to foggy morning; air quality remains ‘very poor’
Delhi’s air quality continued to remain in the ‘very poor’ category on Monday morning, with the air quality index (AQI) falling to 333 at 10 am, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data.

As per the CPCB data, at 9 am, several areas in the city reported AQI in the ‘very poor’ category. The AQI stood at 366 in Anand Vihar, 357 in Punjabi Bagh, 369 in Mundka, 339 in Patparganj, 345 in Ashok Vihar, and 361 in Bawana.
An AQI between zero and 50 is considered good, 51 and 100 satisfactory, 101 and 200 moderate, 201 and 300 poor, 301 and 400 very poor, and 401 and 500 severe.
The national capital was engulfed in a layer of thick fog on Monday morning as residents woke up to a cold morning with the minimum temperature settling at 7.1 degrees Celsius, below the season's average, PTI reported.
The India Meteorological Department has predicted a clear sky for the day in the national capital, while the maximum temperature is expected to settle at 25 degrees Celsius.
The weather agency has predicted a dip in the minimum temperature by about two degrees Celsius in the next few days.
On Sunday, Delhi witnessed a slight increase in its minimum temperature due to the western disturbances affecting Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh. The minimum temperature was recorded at 6.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday, compared to 5.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
Besides Delhi, many parts of North India are expected to witness a dip in the average temperature by two to four degrees Celsius in the coming days.
Delhi recorded its season low of 4.9 degrees Celsius on Friday (December 15).
