Delhi witnesses its first coldest morning, temperature drops to 6 degrees

The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday said that the first ten days of December were the cleanest in terms of air pollution compared to the past five years.

Delhi’s air quality has been registered under the ‘very poor’ category for the sixth consecutive day. According to the System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR), the overall air quality index (AQI) of Delhi, on Tuesday, was 317 at 8 am.

As per the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, most of the areas across the city were recorded to be over 300 AQI on Tuesday morning. Such as Anand Vihar stood at 377, Ashok Vihar at 375, DTU at 319, Dwarka at 330, Indira Gandhi International Airport at 302, ITO at 346, Jahangirpuri at 388, Mundka at 375, R K Puram at 362, Rohini at 335, all categorising under ‘very poor’ scale of AQI.
While on the other side, only Najafgarh and Lodhi Road fell in the ‘poor’ category with an AQI of 279 and 266, respectively.
Meanwhile, the visuals shared by the news agency ANI and PTI showed many areas covered under hazy layers in the sky. Areas like Kartavya Path, India Gate, and ITO in Delhi witnessed smog-filled skies.
 
 
 
Meanwhile, the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) on Monday posted on the microblogging site X and wrote that the first ten days of December were the cleanest in terms of air pollution when compared with the same period over the past five years.
The thread further added that Delhi has not reported even a single day of ‘severe’ air pollution in December 2023, as compared with the corresponding period in the past years.
At the same time, the national capital has recorded to have the coldest morning of the season so far on Tuesday, December 12 with a minimum temperature standing at 6 degrees Celsius. While the maximum temperature of the day has been predicted to go up to 24 degrees Celsius.
According to the official notification of the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the minimum temperature in the national capital is likely to be falling on December 14 and 15 while after that, the temperature is expected to range between 7 to 8 degrees Celsius till December 18.
