Arianna Huffington, the founder of Huffington Post, makes it really easy for young entrepreneurs who are just starting out in the big bad world of corporate houses and industries to establish something of their own.
In a conversation with her LinkedIn audience, the chief executive of Thrive Global took about 400 questions on a myriad of issues - leadership and personal productivity, stress, work-life balance, among others.
Here are some of the highlights from her interaction:
When it comes to juggling between your work and home responsibilities, Huffington says that it is all about prioritisation and doing more work with the hours that we have. She stresses not losing any sleep in the process of keeping everything together. The only way to do this, she continues, is to make time to unplug and recharge throughout the day, Inc.com reported.
"That means ditching social media and scrolling through news feeds during a time of day when you should be focused on developing your business, a passion project, or whatever makes you come alive,” she explained.
Smartphones and the myriad of apps that it comes with, keep us distracted all the time, especially at night when we should ideally be “recharging our batteries” and just not our phones.
Stressing the importance of sleep in an overworked, always-on digital world, Huffington added, we should create a ritual for transitioning to sleep by keeping the phone away at night and meditate before sleeping.
When it comes to managing my personal time, for example, I always choose sleep over watching Game of Thrones or scrolling through my Instagram feed so that I can wake up recharged and ready to face my day with optimism. Also, definitely don't judge yourself, which can only add to our stress. While many audiences asked about how to manage their personal and professional lives, people were also curious to find answers as to how to overcome their fears when it comes to leaving jobs or starting out on their own. While answering this question, Huffington quoted her mother saying, “Failure isn’t the opposite of success, it’s a stepping stone.”
She added, “Fearlessness isn't the absence of fear, but the mastery of it. While you shouldn't blindly take a risky plunge into the unknown, once you've truly connected with yourself and know exactly what you want, don't wait for the fear to be gone; lean into it and make your move.”
