Spice Girls to feature on Royal Mail’s stamp to celebrate 30th anniversary

Spice Girls will be the sixth music group to feature a dedicated stamp followed by The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, The Rolling Stones in 2022 and Iron Maiden in 2023.

Spice Girls to feature on Royal Mail’s stamp to celebrate 30th anniversary
The British postal service and courier company, situated in the United Kingdom, is issuing a set of 15 postal stamps dedicated to the pop group, Spice Girls. According to the BBC’s report, the issuing of the Spice Girls stamps is taking place to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the pop group. As per reports, the stamps will be released for circulation on January 11.

This move also marks the first time the Royal Mail has issued stamps to a female pop group. Spice Girls will be the sixth music group to feature a dedicated stamp followed by The Beatles in 2007, Pink Floyd in 2016, Queen in 2020, The Rolling Stones in 2022, and Iron Maiden in 2023.
Spice Girls formed in 1994 is known for over 100 million global record sales in the past three decades, which also includes nine UK No1 singles.
Meanwhile, The Royal Mail’s stamps will be featuring the band members Emma Bunton, Victoria Beckham, Geri Halliwell-Horner, Melanie Chisholm, and Melanie Brown. The pop band members are known by their stage names as Baby, Posh, Ginger, Sporty,s and Scary Spice.
According to the Daily Mail report, the set of 10 stamps will feature the images from the Spice Girls’ well-known performances from the 1997 Brit Awards show to the performance at the closing ceremony of the 2012 London Olympic Games. Additionally, one of the stamps will feature a close-up of Geri Halliwell in her iconic Union Flag mini-dress from the Brit Awards show, while another will be featuring Victoria Beckham’s from the 2008 show in New York.
Each band member will have an entire stamp collection dedicated to a glammed picture of them while the remaining five will be the group shots from their international performances including 1997 Istanbul and 2007 San Jose, reported Daily Mail.
The members of the pop group spoke on the honour, “When we formed the Spice Girls we couldn’t have dreamt that 30 years later we would be the first female group to be ­dedicated an entire stamp collection, that’s Girl Power”, reported Mirror.
Royal Mail’s director of external affairs, David Gold said, “We are proud to celebrate the most successful female music group ever seen”, Daily Mail quoted.
