Mumbai Police on Tuesday reviewed the security status of Bollywood star Salman Khan following a fresh threat received by the Tiger 3 actor on Facebook. The threat has been received through a post by an account claiming to be of the gangster Lawrence Bishnoi.
However, Lawrence Bishnoi is currently in jail under a drug smuggling case, which was investigated by the National Investigation Agency (NIA).
On Sunday, November 26, the threat post on Facebook indirectly targeted Salman Khan while it mentioned Punjabi singer Gippy Grewal in connection with a recent attack at his Vancouver residence.
“You consider Salman Khan a brother, but now it’s time for your ‘brother’ to come and save you. This message is also for Salman Khan – don’t be in the illusion that Dawood will save you; no one can save you,” the post read.
The threat comes in connection with Gippy Grewal’s response to slain Punjabi singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
“Your dramatic response to Sidhu Moose Wala’s death did not go unnoticed. We all know the kind of person he was and the criminal associations he had… You’ve now landed on our radar,” the FB post added.
Following the thread, Mumbai Police undertook a security review of the actor. As reported by the Hindustan Times, Mumbai Police said, “We have written to the social media platform to check where the post has been generated from, whether the social media accounts are genuine of Bishnoi and who handles it, as Bishnoi is in jail. We are trying to find the IP address.”
Since November 2022, the security of the actor has been upgraded to Y-Plus along with granting him a licence to carry a personal weapon. Earlier in April 2023, the security of the actor was enhanced as his personal assistant received a threat email and a case was registered against gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, and Goldy Brar.
Meanwhile, Salman Khan is not the only actor from the film industry who has been facing such threats. Recently, Shah Rukh Khan was given Y+ security by the Mumbai Police after the actor complained of receiving death threats following the success of Pathaan and Jawan.
Earlier in March, Amitabh Bachchan and Dharmendra were alerted by the Nagpur Police, after the control room received an anonymous call to blow up the house of the two actors.
