Mexican-American singer and actor, Adan Canto, passed away on January 8 at the age of 42. Publicist Jennifer Allen, in a statement to the Associated Press, revealed that Canto succumbed to appendiceal cancer and had chosen to maintain the confidentiality of his diagnosis.

Born in Ciudad Acuna, Coahuila, Mexico, Adan Canto started his artistic journey at the age of 16, leaving home for Mexico City to pursue a career as a singer-songwriter. He later transitioned into acting, marking his television debut on the 2009 Mexican series Estado de Gracia. The turning point in his career came with his American debut in Kevin Williamson’s 2013 Fox drama series, The Following, starring alongside Kevin Bacon.
Canto’s talent and versatility shone through in various roles throughout his career. Notable performances include Vice President-elect Aaron Shore in Designated Survivor, Colombian politician Rodrigo Lara Bonilla in Narcos, and the mutant Sunspot in X-Men: Days of Future Past.
His impact extended to the recent Fox drama series, The Cleaning Lady, where he took on the lead role for the first two seasons. Despite health challenges preventing his participation in the filming of Season 3, the series plans to honour him with a tribute card in the premiere, according to the report by Deadline.
Canto’s filmography boasts diverse projects, including Amanda and Jack Go Glamping, 2 Hearts, Bruised, The Devil Below, and Agent Game. In addition to his acting career, he directed two short films, Before Tomorrow and The Shot, showcasing his passion for storytelling both in front of and behind the camera.
Adan Canto’s legacy extends beyond his professional accomplishments. He is survived by his wife, Stephanie Ann Canto, and their two young children, Eve Josephine and Roman Alder.
The industry expressed its grief through a joint statement from Warner Bros. Television and Fox Entertainment, describing Canto as a “wonderful actor and dear friend.” They emphasised the profound loss and extended their condolences to his family, promising to cherish the memories of a talent gone too soon, according to the report by Entertainment Weekly.
Canto’s wife, shared a poignant tribute by posting a photo of the couple, accompanied by a Bible passage and the heartfelt words: “Forever my treasure Adan, see you soon.”
