Koffee with Karan S8: Power-duos we want to see on the couch this season

If Karan Johar cannot get these celebrities to have coffee together on camera, no one else can. Ahead of the new season’s first episode featuring Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, consider this a petition Mr. Johar, for we absolutely cannot wait.

Koffee with Karan S8: Power-duos we want to see on the couch this season
I can’t stop watching the teaser of Koffee with Karan Season 8’s first episode that the talk show’s host, filmmaker Karan Johar, shared on his Instagram account two days ago. And I’m not alone. After years of anticipation and wait, Bollywood’s numero uno couple Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh will finally make their first appearance together on the show in the first episode that is scheduled to premiere on Disney+Hotstar on October 26.

Within 48 hours, Johar’s reel has amassed 5 million views. Of course, the Indian internet has gone bonkers with excitement at the sight of the two superstars going candid and spilling the beans on their crackling chemistry both on and off screen, their much-hyped love story, and their careers, deliciously twinning in sizzling, smoking black outfits.
After a lukewarm Season 7, the teaser has raised expectations with the upcoming instalment of the controversial celeb chat show with audiences already demanding who they want to see on the notorious couch going forward. Though several power couples have appeared on Koffee with Karan in the last 19 years, Johar has been unable to bring together a lot of the recently-weds, including Sonam Kapoor-Anand Ahuja, Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas, Varun Dhawan-Natasha Dalal, and Sidharth Malhotra-Kiara Advani.
It’d be stupendous if he manages to get any (or all!) of them on the show this season. But it is the celebrity duos mentioned below that we absolutely want to see this season. The wait has been too long already. We don’t want to anymore. Also, if Karan Johar cannot get them to have coffee together on camera, I’m convinced no one else can. Consider this a petition Mr. Johar for we absolutely cannot wait.
Alia Bhatt-Ranbir Kapoor
Ever since the teaser for the Deepika-Ranveer episode dropped, it has been on everyone’s mind. So much so that one netizen went as far as to write in the comments, “Ranbir aur Alia nahi aaye to mai harpic pee lunga.” Since their love blossomed during the making of Brahmastra Part One: Shiva, a film co-produced by Johar, it’s only fair that we hear all about it firsthand on his show and how their lives have changed since the birth of their daughter Raha.
Shahrukh Khan-Suhana Khan
Remember when Saif Ali Khan came on to Koffee with Karan to introduce his daughter Sara Ali Khan to the world ahead of the release of her debut film Kedarnath (2018)? It wouldn’t be too much of a stretch to say that more people watched (and loved) the episode than they did the Abhishek Kapoor film.
The viewership would go through the roof if Shah Rukh Khan did something similar with his daughter Suhana as she is about to make her big Bollywood debut with Zoya Akhtar’s The Archies, which will release on Netflix on December 7. It’s been a while since SRK—who was once a regular—made an appearance on KWK. After delivering two of the biggest blockbusters of the Hindi cinema this year, I’m sure he’ll have a lot to talk about. If he decides to, we’re all ears.
Masaba Gupta-Vivian Richards
Since the pandemic, Masaba’s rise has been meteoric. She appeared as the titular character in her biographical Netflix show Masaba Masaba (2020-22), then in the Prime Video anthology short film I Love Thane. In the last two years, she has completely revamped her fashion label House of Masaba, and has founded the cosmo-wellness brand LoveChild. Over the years, she’s done several interviews and made public appearances with her mother Neena Gupta, but none with her father, cricketing legend Sir Vivian Richards. It’d be a delight to watch the two together talk about their equation, lives, careers, and more.
Katrina Kaif-Vicky Kaushal
Their story started on the Koffee couch. KWK devotees would remember. It all began when Kat cancelled out all the heroes on Johar’s list and said she would look great on screen with Vicky Kaushal instead. Johar then, true to his element, asked Vicky to react when he appeared on the show next. The Uri actor pretended to faint on the couch in response. The rest, as they say, is history. Moreover, both the actors have major films due to release. What better platform than Koffee with Karan to talk about Sam Bahadur and Tiger 3? An absolute win-win for everyone, don’t you think?
Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli
Although they do make frequent public appearances together and are all the rage on Instagram, it’d be a joy to see them cosy up a little and talk unfiltered on television. Their lives have been extremely public with an entire nation watching their every move, but there haven’t been too many occasions when Virushka have indulged in a sit-down, hour-long conversation discussing work, musings, and each other. Moreover, it’s been five years since Anushka’s last film Zero. We miss her on the big screen and would love to see more of her however we can.
