On the occasion of Kartik Aaryan’s 33rd birthday today, the filmmaker Karan Johar’s production house, Dharma Productions, has officially announced its collaboration with the actor for an upcoming project. Although the production house has not revealed the title of the new project yet, it has declared the release date of the upcoming movie as August 15, 2025.
The new movie will be helmed by filmmaker Sandeep Modi and it will also be backed by Balaji Motion Pictures.
Sharing details on the collaborating project with Kartik Aaryan, Dharma Productions wrote on Instagram, “Lights, camera and…surprise! We are thrilled to announce a new story brewing that has found a home with Dharma Productions and Balaji Telefilms. Starring Kartik Aaryan and directed by Sandeep Modi, this yet-to-be-titled film will be released on 15 August 2025. Stay tuned!”
Apart from announcing the project, filmmaker and producer Karan Johar wished the Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 actor on his birthday and wrote, “Kartik, happy birthday to you…may our collaboration only grow from strength to strength from hereon and never cease to create magic on the big screen.”
Following the official declaration by the production house, Kartik in an Instagram post indicated that the upcoming film could be a period drama.
“An unforgettable chapter of our glorious Indian history full of valour and sacrifice is now going to be part of my life, a subject close to my heart... super proud and excited to embark on a new journey with the extremely talented Sandeep Modi and the powerhouse Karan Johar and Ektaa Kapoor,” he wrote.
The announcement of the collaboration of Karan Johar with Kartik Aaryan comes as a surprise for the fans following the actor’s reportedly sour relationship with Karan Johar.
Kartik was signed as the lead actor for Colin D'Cunha-helmed romantic comic drama Dostana 2 in 2021 by Dharma Productions. However, due to differences with Karan Johar and the actor’s alleged tantrums on the sets of the film, the production house dropped him from the project.
Later, the production house officially announced Kartik’s exit from the film
In a statement in April 2021, the production house said, “Due to professional circumstances, on which we have decided to maintain dignified silence- we will be recasting Dostana 2, directed by Colin D’Cunha. Please wait for the official announcement soon.”
