'Jawan' and G20 curbs: You won't be able to catch SRK starrer in these Delhi theatres over the weekend

Shahrukh Khan's latest film Jawan, which released on Thursday, September 7, has already set the box office on fire. The Atlee-directed movie has seen the highest opening for a Hindi film so far.

But if you live in Delhi and you are planning to watch the movie this weekend, then there may be some hurdles ahead.

With the G20 summit scheduled for September 9-10 in Delhi, which will see heads of state from around the globe, including US President Joe Biden, security restrictions are expected, especially in parts of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) area.

As a result, PVR Plaza, Rivoli, Odeon and ECX Chanakyapuri will be shut during the summit. However, other theatres in areas like Nehru Place, Rajouri Garden, Dwarka, Rohini, Vikaspuri and Janakpuri have shows/tickets available on both BookMyShow and Paytm. You may find it difficult to reach these theatres on time if you book tickets for the weekend due to the traffic restrictions.

Will G20 impact Jawan sales in Delhi?

According to a report in PTI, the theatres that are closed are single-screen cinemas with a total capacity of about 2,000 seats. So that really wouldn't have much of an impact — and the losses would be compensated by the fact that Delhi has a four-day weekend.

"Out of the 10 lakh capacity on opening day, we've sold about 25 percent of the tickets, which is like 2.5 lakh tickets sold for Thursday across PVR INOX (screens). It is a very big number and early estimates suggest that it can be bigger than Pathaan," Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, Executive Director of PVR-INOX Ltd, told PTI.

Additionally, when it comes to the overall business of the movie, according to Bijli, about 30-35 percent of the film's business will come from the South, which again would be bigger than the pickings from Pathaan.

As per first day numbers, Jawan has seen the biggest single-day collection for a Hindi film, and has become the first Bollywood film to earn more than Rs 60 crore on opening day.

According to Sacnilk’s report, the Hindi version of the film opened with 46 percent occupancy. It garnered an occupancy of 54 percent in the afternoon shows, and 64 percent in the evening shows. Later for the night shows Jawan was occupied with 69 percent.
