Farhan Akhtar was born on January 9, 1974, in Mumbai to the famous screenwriter Javed Akhtar and Honey Irani. However, Akhtar’s parents separated when he was very young, and his father then married actress Shabana Azmi. He stayed with his mother in Bandra where he completed his schooling at Maneckji Cooper School. Later, he pursued law at HR College.
At the tender age of 17, Akhtar helped in film distribution and direction for Lamhe (1991), directed by Yash Chopra. Following the same, he moved to an advertisement production house called ‘Script Shop’ where he worked for three years.
Later, in 2001, Farhan made his writing and directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film Dil Chahta Hai featuring Aamir Khan, Saif Ali Khan, and Akshaye Khanna in lead roles. The movie marked a stepping stone for Akhtar’s career in the industry, following which he directed many more movies.
In 2008, Farhan made his solo acting and singing debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s Rock On!!. Farhan also wrote the co-wrote script and produced alongside it. Adding to the series of his acting career, he featured in Luck By Chance, Karthik Calling Karthik, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, and many more hits.

The 'jack of all trades' actor leads a lavish lifestyle in Mumbai with a net worth close to ₹1.48 billion, according to an Asianet News report. As per the report, Akhtar charges between ₹30 to ₹40 million for each project.
As the reports suggest, the actor cum director and producer lives in a luxurious villa in Bandra, Mumbai. The actor also owns several real estate properties in foreign countries.
Akhtar also has a passion for collecting high-end cars. Amongst several cars that he owns, the Porsche Cayman is one of the costliest. He also has a Range Rover, Mercedes Benz, and Honda CRV.
