Concertgoers who ‘had to get up early to go to work’ sue Madonna for starting the show late
'Queen of Pop' Madonna has been sued by two of her fans for starting her concert two hours late. In their lawsuit filed on Wednesday in Brooklyn federal court, the fans claimed that they “had to get up early to go to work” the next day, The Guardian reported.

As per the lawsuit, Michael Fellows and Jonathan Hadden bought tickets for a 13 December show of the 65-year-old singer at the Barclays Center in New York. Madonna performed at the venue as part of her Celebration tour.
They have claimed that the show was advertised to start at 8.30 PM local time, however, Madonna was late by around two hours. The singer did not take the stage until after 10.30 PM.
Fellows and Hadden could only manage to leave the venue after 1 AM and by that time they were “left stranded in the middle of the night” and were “confronted with limited public transportation, limited ride-sharing, and/or increased public and private transportation costs," the lawsuit states.
It has further been alleged that since the weeknight show finished late in the night, it affected their ability to “take care of their family responsibilities the next day”.
“In addition, many ticketholders who attended concerts on a weeknight had to get up early to go to work and/or take care of their family responsibilities the next day,” they said.
Madonna, Barclays Center, and tour promoter Live Nation have been accused of “unconscionable, unfair, and/or deceptive trade practices” for starting the concert late.
Fellows and Hadden stated in their lawsuit that this constitutes a breach of contract and “a wanton exercise in false advertising”.
As per the lawsuit, Madonna started her concerts at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center in December after 10:30 pm on all three nights (December 13, 14 and 16, 2023), even when the tickets advertised that it would start at 8:30 PM, CNN reported.
The Brooklyn concerts constituted the beginning of the North American leg of the singer's Celebration tour.
The shows were originally scheduled to be held in July 2023, however, they were rescheduled as Madonna was hospitalised in June 2023 after developing a serious bacterial infection.
Through the lawsuit, the concertgoers are seeking class action status for attendees of other shows of the Celebration tour which started late.
