AR Rahman’s Chennai concert: Outraged fans slam organisers for mismanagement
The organisers of AR Rahman’s Chennai concert are facing angry reactions from the fans of the iconic music composer for widespread alleged mismanagement. Many fans are angry about not being able to enter AR Rahman’s concert, Marakkuma Nenjam, which was held in East Coast Road in Chennai on Sunday, September 10.

Many of the fans complained about the poor audio quality, overcrowding and poorly arranged AR Rahman concert. Fans also complained that they could not enter the concert despite having valid tickets. Many even alleged that there was a stampede-like situation due to the failure of the organisers to manage the crowd at the entry points.
Now, AR Rahman has suggested a solution for the fans who could not attend the event despite purchasing advance tickets.
“Dearest Chennai Makkale, those of you who purchased tickets and weren’t able to enter owing to unfortunate circumstances, please do share a copy of your ticket purchase to arr4chennai@btos.in along with your grievances. Our team will respond asap @BToSproductions @actcevents,” tweeted Rahman on Monday, September 11.
In the concert, many of the fans who were holding valid tickets were not even allowed in the event due to the overcrowding. On the other hand, those who were inside faced a stampede-like situation. Apart from these, the audio quality of the show was of poor quality.
Event  happened outside our jurisdiction : Chennai  Police Commissioner
On singer AR Rahman's concert, Chennai Police Commissioner Sandeep Rathore said that the event happened outside his jurisdiction but in a neighbouring commissionerate.
“What we hear initially may be because the program was postponed earlier. When it was postponed, there might have been a reissue of tickets. The number of viewers who were going for the event might have been more than the number required so that's how the problem seems to happen. It is one of the events in Tamil Nadu, generally, we don't have that we are very particular about such kind of events," he told the news agency ANI
The concert, Marakuma Nenjam, was held in Adityaram Palace on East Coast Road, Chennai, on Sunday evening, which turned out to be a nightmare for the Rahman fans. The event was organised by the ACTC Events.
After the chaos, several fans demanded Rahman’s official apology for the chaos that took place in his concert. Following the same, fans expressed their outrage on social media platforms.
While sharing a video clip of an angry fan tearing up the tickets of AR Rahman’s concert, columnist and author, Manobala Vijayabalan tweeted, “Disappointed #ARRahman fan tore #MarakkumaNenjam concert tickets and says this is indeed an unforgettable event and a worst gift from A R Rahman to the people.”
Additionally, many of the attendees of the Marakuma Nenjam event shared their ordeal at the concert. One said, “Very badly organised concert. Waste of money. Energy. Felt a huge sense of betrayal. I was feeling more stressed than good vibes because of so many fights that were going around! No proper sound!”
Another added, “Very very bad audio systems. Couldn't hear any song or music. Too crowded, the worst organisation, stampede, parking jammed, could not even return, need a refund.”
The third one shared a thread while stating, “There were dozens of people warning us not to get in. Apparently, in the chaotic milieu that followed, many had been pushed/shoved/stamped upon causing injury. The crowd was massive and there wasn't an inch of space and in the claustrophobic environment, people started fainting.”
Another shared a glimpse of the crowd and said, “Imagine paying 2,000 rupees for gold tickets and this is what you get? Had to return without even entering.”

The fifth one called out the event as a scam to earn crores in the name of a concert and tweeted, “AR Rahman just scammed crores in the name of the #marakumanenjam concert...There was no space for the people in the venue...many of them were not allowed even with gold and diamond passes (5K)... many of us came out(they didn't allow that also)”
Amid the massive outrage and criticism of the concert, the organisers of the event have only responded with a generic tweet that does not even address the concerns of the people who have been raising questions. The ACTC Events’ tweet reads, “Grateful to Chennai and the legendary AR Rahman Sir! The incredible response and the overwhelming crowd made our show a massive success. Those who couldn't attend due to overcrowding, our sincere apologies. We take full responsibility and are accountable. We are with you.”
However, the iconic music director has been criticised strongly on the social media platform for the mismanagement at the concert.
