In a star-studded ceremony hosted by CNN-News18, the prestigious Indian of the Year 2023 Youth Icon (Popular) award was bestowed upon the supremely talented music composer and singer, Anirudh Ravichander. The award, presented by renowned filmmaker Mani Ratnam, was handed over to Anirudh in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the world of music, particularly in the Tamil film industry.

Anirudh Ravichander, born on October 16, 1990, has become a household name, captivating audiences with his soulful compositions and catchy tunes. His journey to stardom took a giant leap with his debut song, Why This Kolaveri Di, composed for the 2012 film 3. The song not only went viral globally but also became a cultural phenomenon, garnering over 400 million views on YouTube.
This early success set the stage for Anirudh's flourishing career.
Notably, Anirudh's collaboration with director A.R. Murugadoss for Kaththi (2014) produced the infectious hit Selfie Pulla, solidifying his position as a go-to music composer. His association with Rajinikanth's Petta in 2019 further elevated his profile, and the soundtrack received widespread acclaim.
Anirudh's collaboration with international artist Diplo on the remix of Major Lazer's Cold Water in 2016 expanded his reach beyond national borders.
Anirudh's musical prowess is deeply rooted in his family's artistic legacy. The son of actor Ravichander 'Ravi' Raghavendra and classical dancer Lakshmi Ravichander, he is also the nephew of megastar Rajinikanth.
Anirudh's great-grandfather, director Krishnaswami Subrahmanyam, was a prominent filmmaker in the 1930s, adding another layer to his rich heritage.
Anirudh graduated from Loyola College, Chennai, in 2011, considering it a backup plan in case his musical career did not take off.
His dedication to his art is evident in his educational background, which includes learning piano at the Trinity College of Music, London, and obtaining a diploma in sound engineering from Soundtech Media Audio Engineering Institute, Chennai.
Even in his school days, Anirudh's musical prowess was astonishing, winning a reality TV show judged by none other than A.R. Rahman. Anirudh's band emerged victorious over five other groups, clearly pointing to a dazzling future.
The Nominees for the Youth Icon category at the IOTY 2023 included Anirudh Ravichander, AP Dhillon, Kusha Kapila, Ranveer Allahbadia, and Trinetra Haldar.
