Commitments received for 900 MW out of 2,500 MW under Pilot Scheme II, says NHPC
Hydroelectric power generation company NHPC has received commitments for 900 MW under the second leg of a Pilot Scheme notified by the power ministry.
Under Pilot Scheme II, NHPC is to finalise the supply of 2,500 MW through various coal-based thermal power plants for the short-term at a tariff of 4.41 per unit.
“We are trying our level best to find the bidders for this scheme which is being piloted by PFC Consulting. It is at 4.41. The market has not reacted very positively to this 4.41 but it is not that we don’t have any takers. We have almost commitments of about 900 MW so far and since the scheme is going to be ending on September 30, we are trying our level best," said Balraj Joshi, chairman and managing director of NHPC.
“Last year we generated about 24,193 million units and this was the highest so far achieved by NHPC and also due to commissioning of one of our projects in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) namely Kishanganga, this time the target has been fixed at 25,500 million units, which will yield a revenue of about Rs 8,100 crore, which is much higher than what we did last year,” Joshi added.
Speaking about the receivable situation, Joshi said, “Our receivables are increasing and right now we have about Rs 2,200 crore, which is due if you take the credit period. Otherwise, the states of J&K and Uttar Pradesh (UP) are the biggest defaulters. But with the new guidelines given by the ministry now that the regulators have been empowered, the situation is going to improve.”
