Yogi Adityanath announces 3-year age relaxation for UP police recruitment
In response to the pressing concerns raised by youths and public representatives regarding the career implications of the COVID-19 pandemic, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took a significant step on Tuesday by issuing an order that provides a three-year age relaxation for candidates applying for the recruitment of 60,244 police constables.

The move comes after Jewar (Gautam Buddh Nagar) MLA Dhirendra Singh and Anupshahar (Bulandshahr) MLA Sanjay Sharma met with the chief minister in the state capital, urging for an adjustment in age limits to accommodate the challenges faced by aspirants.
According to an official statement from the CM's office as reported by PTI, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath instructed the Principal Secretary (Home Department) to implement a three-year relaxation in the age limit for candidates across all categories participating in the police recruitment drive.
The state government had previously notified the recruitment process on December 23, with the application window opening on December 27 and closing on January 16.
As per the updated guidelines, the minimum age for candidates is 18 years, while the maximum age has been extended to 22 years. This initiative addresses concerns raised by the two BJP lawmakers who, in a letter to the chief minister, requested a three-to-five-year relaxation in the upper age limit, considering the disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic over the last two years.
Of the total 60,244 police constable vacancies, the official notification specifies that 24,102 positions are for unreserved candidates, 6,024 for economically weaker sections, 16,262 for Other Backward Classes, 12,650 for Scheduled Castes, and 1,204 for Scheduled Tribes. Additionally, the notification allocates 20% of the total posts for women.
