Madhya Pradesh government to provide 35% reservation for women in govt jobs
The Madhya Pradesh government made amendment to the Madhya Pradesh Civils Services (Special Provision for Appointment of Women) Rules, 1997 to provide 35% reservation in recruitment to women. The new order bars the Forest department in the state.

The state government issued a notification informing the same on Wednesday. A copy of notification read, "Notwithstanding anything contained in any service rules, there shall be reserved 35% of all posts in the service under the state (except Forest Department) in favour of women at the stage of direct recruitment and the said reservation shall be horizontal and compartment-wise."
Earlier, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced 35% reservation to women in police and other government jobs and 50 percent reservation for women in teaching posts, news agency ANI reported.
According to the report, priority will now be given to women in local bodies, including aldermen and other positions. Education fees of girls will be borne by the government while ensuring better education to them.
Recently, the Women's Reservation Bill passed by the Parliament became a law after it received assent from President Droupadi Murmu.
Women population in Madhya Pradesh
As per the Election Commission data, women constitute 47.8% of the total population in the state, while men comprise 52.1% of the total state population, with the remainder identifying as others.
Now, during the Madhya Pradesh Assembly Elections 2018, women's voter turnout was higher than that among men in 52 seats of the total 230 seats. As many as 10 seats were dominated by women — meaning women voters outnumbered male voters.
Not just Madhya Pradesh, but several states across the nation are initiating programs to attract women voters, recognising their crucial role as active participants in the democratic process.
On September 15, the DMK-led government introduced the Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Scheme with the objective of granting a monthly financial grant of Rs 1,000 to 1.06 crore eligible women heads of families.
Karnataka also introduced the Gruha Lakshmi scheme, aiming to facilitate an unconditional cash transfer program that would deposit Rs 2,000 monthly into the bank accounts of women heading households.
