India approves Bill aimed at higher education among tribals in Telangana

The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday (October 4) granted its approval for the introduction of the Central Universities Bill.

Named the Central Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023, this legislation aims to further amend the Central Universities Act of 2009, with the purpose of establishing the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University.

The university will be located in Mulugu district in Telangana, as stipulated in the 13th Schedule to the Andhra Pradesh Re-organisation Act of 2014.

This initiative comes with a provision of funds amounting to Rs 889.07 crore, demonstrating the government's commitment to advancing higher education opportunities in the region.

The establishment of the Sammakka Sarakka Central Tribal University is poised to play a pivotal role in enhancing access to quality higher education in Telangana. Moreover, it will promote tribal art, culture, and traditional knowledge systems through comprehensive instructional and research facilities.

One of the primary objectives of this university is to cater to the educational needs of the tribal population within the state. By doing so, it aspires to bridge existing regional imbalances regarding access to higher education and create additional capacity to meet the rising demand for quality educational opportunities.
