Delhi schools to remain closed from January 1 to 6 for winter vacation
The winter vacation for schools in Delhi will begin from January 1, 2024. According to a circular issued by the Directorate of Education of the Delhi government, the winter vacation for the academic session 2023-2024 will commence on January 1 and end on January 6, 2024.

The earlier planned 15-day winter vacation has been curtailed due to the shutdown in November due to the higher pollution levels in the national capital. The decision to shorten the winter vacation to six days was taken by the Directorate of Education due to the break from November 9 to November 18, prompted by concerns over air pollution levels in the city.
Consequently, the Directorate of Education has reallocated the remaining portion of the winter holidays in January 2024.
The circular stated, “However, in order to ensure that our students are not adversely affected due to the poor air quality in Delhi, a portion of winter vacation was observed from November 9 to November 18.”
The Education Department has directed all schools in Delhi to disseminate this information among stakeholders, including teaching and non-teaching staff, as well as students and parents.
Meanwhile, in light of the ongoing relief efforts and flooding caused by Cyclone Michaung, schools and colleges in Chennai will remain closed today. The city, along with Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, and Thiruvallur districts, is grappling with severe floods resulting from the heavy rainfall due to the impact of the storm.
The winter break for schools in Kashmir Valley is also going to begin this month. Last month, due to the extreme cold weather in Kashmir, authorities announced that schools throughout the Valley would be temporarily closed for approximately three months, marking the onset of the winter break.
For students up to Class 8, the winter break is set to begin on November 28, while the break for students in Classes 9 to 12 will start on December 11. As per official statements, the break will remain in effect for all students until February 29, 2024. Additionally, students in Classes 9 to 12 will get their winter break from December 11 to February 29, 2024.
