In Mandsaur district and nearby areas, the price of garlic in the wholesale market is between ₹300-500 per kg, while in the retail market, it is being sold for a whopping ₹1,000 per kg. Low production due to untimely rain in many states in October and November is said to be the reason behind the price rise.
A Mandsaur-based seller told the news outlet that garlic sacks are coming in large numbers in the vegetable market as there is tremendous demand across major cities in the country. Garlic from Mandsaur is being supplied to several states, including Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka in south India to Delhi, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Haryana in north India.
