Wholesale inflation slips to 2.02 percent in June

The core inflation data for the month of April was at 0.9 percent as compared to 1.2 percent in the previous month.

India's Wholesale Price Index-based (WPI) inflation slipped to 2.02 percent in June, as against 2.45 percent in May, the lowest level in 23 months, data published by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry showed on Monday.

June WPI was expected to slide to 2.13 percent from 2.45 percent in May, as per a CNBC-TV18's poll. The wholesale inflation was expected to be in the range of 1.7 percent to 2.15 percent.
The ministry also revised the wholesale inflation for April to 3.24 percent from 3.07 percent.
The core inflation data for the month of April was at 0.9 percent as compared to 1.2 percent in the previous month.
Wholesale inflation in food fell to 5.04 percent as against 5.10 percent in May. Vegetable inflation fell to 24.76 percent against 33.15 percent in May.
WPI inflation in primary articles rose to 6.72 percent versus 6.16 percent in the previous month.
Data released by the government showed deflation in fuel and power stood at -2.20 percent as against 0.98 percent in May.
The non-food articles inflation fell to 5.06 percent in June, compared to 6.23 percent in the previous month.
The Reserve Bank of India in its June monetary policy committee (MPC) announced a rate cut of 25 basis points (bps) and changed the stance to 'accommodative' from 'neutral'. The policy announcement came after the  MPC concluded its second bi-monthly meeting for the current fiscal year.
One basis point is one-hundredth of a percentage.
India's retail inflation increased marginally to 3.18 percent in June over the previous month, mainly due to the rise in food prices, according to government data released on Friday.
The RBI, for the first half of FY20, raised the inflation target to 3-3.1 percent from 2.9-3 percent.
