Data released by the government showed fuel and power inflation slumped to 8.38 percent as against 16.28 percent in November 2018. This was on account of lowering of prices of petrol and diesel through December.
Individually, in petrol and diesel inflation was 1.57 per cent and 8.61 per cent, respectively, and for liquified petroleum gas (LPG) it was 6.87 per cent during December.
The 3.80 percent inflation is the lowest in 8 months, and a lower inflation than this was last seen in April at 3.62 percent.
A CNBC-TV18 poll suggested that December WPI is expected to be 4.57 percent compared to  4.6 percent in November.
Analysts on an average expected wholesale inflation to be in the range of 4.10 percent to 5 percent. Core inflation data in December was expected to softened on a month-over-month basis on account of softening industrial commodities, the analysts added.
