“India, I guarantee, will be among the top three economies in the world in a few years,” PM Modi said in Ahmedabad at a programme to mark the completion of 20 years of the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit.

"As of now, India stands at fifth spot in the list of largest economies in the world by gross domestic product (GDP). India only trails behind the US, China, Japan and Germany in terms of economy. A decade ago, India’s rank was 11th among the world’s largest economies, only to surpass Russia, Brazil, Italy, France and the UK later,” he said.

At the event, the two-time PM appealed to industrialists to explore new sectors and possibilities on the road to becoming a developed country by 2047.

He said the Vibrant Gujarat Summit will strengthen the GIFT City project. First conceptualised in 2007 by then CM Narendra Modi, the Gujarat International Finance Tec-City, popularly known as GIFT City is designed to be a global financial hub. It is situated between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar on the banks of the Sabarmati river.

PM Modi remembered Vibrant Gujarat Summit being a small start 20 years ago, but today, he said, the summit has become a mega investment summit. “Vibrant Gujarat is not just branding, it is bonding,” he said.

Looking back, he said, only a few countries participated in 2003. But today, 40,000 participants and delegates, and 135 countries attend the summit, apart from more than 2000 exhibitors.

“No bigger satisfaction to see what Gujarat has turned into today,” Modi said.
