After the decision of the Union Cabinet, they will now pay Rs 603.
Emkay Global estimates the fiscal cost to the exchequer would be about Rs 3,600 crore on an annualised basis. “This doesn't change our fiscal math.. there may be no impact on OMCs as the subsidy is directly given to the PMUY beneficiaries by the govt,” the brokerage said.
The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana was launched in 2016 to safeguard the health of women and households from the consumption of unhealthy fuels by providing them with clean cooking fuel in the form of LPG. The scheme is designed to protect the health of women by curbing health issues that result from consuming fossil fuels and other fuels used for cooking.
Moreover, it also reduces casualties that occur as a result of unclean fuels and controls respiratory issues due to the consumption of unhealthy fuels. Apart from furthering the health of women, this scheme also seeks to empower women in rural India by issuing connections under the name of the women in the household.
Under this flagship scheme, the government aims to provide five crore LPG connections to BPL (below poverty line) families with support of Rs 1,600 per connection in the next three years. Under the Ujjwala 2.0 scheme, the government made an additional allocation of Rs 1.6 crore for LPG connections, and this provided similar benefits to migrant families as well.

Women who are 18 years or older, and without an existing LPG connection in their homes, can apply for the Ujjwala subsidy.
