After failing to meet the targets set by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on enrollment and updating citizen information for Aadhaar database, the authorised body withdrew its electronic know-your-customer facilities from multiple banks and Aadhaar authentication agencies (AUA), The Economic Times reported.
UIDAI suspended the electronic customer verification for 13 banks and Aadhaar authentication agencies after they failed to meet their targets, people aware of the matter told ET.
However, the authorised body has restored the service facility for ICICI Bank, IndusInd Bank, RBL Bank and IDBI Bank after they reassured of meeting the targets and undertake corrective measures, said the report.
For various banks and AUA, the Aadhaar KYC facility is connected to an array of financial services they offer and a withdrawal would cause disruptions in providing such services. About 30-35 million Aadhaar enrollment and updates take place on a daily basis at these centres and banks, the report added.
