Truckers protest insurance regulator’s increase in third party premium; to go on indefinite strike from April 1

All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners’ Association will go on an indefinite strike beginning April 1, 2018 to protest Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority’s (IRDA) proposal to increase third party insurance premium.

Truckers are seeking a reduction or deregulation of third party insurance premiums. They claim that IRDA has increased premium rates by 800% since 2002.
The strike is likely to see a major impact in Maharashtra, West Bengal, Odisha, Kerala, Bihar, Karnataka.
The association said, "All India Confederation of Goods Vehicle Owners’ Association is constrained to announce countrywide indefinite strike from 7th April 2018 against the apathy and injustice being meted out by IRDAI to the goods & commercial vehicles owners by way of proposed increase in Third Party Premium Insurance premium from 01st April 2018,”
